Phil trained in mediumship and psychic development with the distinguished teacher Ivy Northage, at The College of Psychic Studies, where he also worked professionally as a freelance consultant for twelve years; and with the late Gordon Higginson (former president of The Spiritualist Association of Great Britain), and Ursula Roberts, at The Arthur Findlay College, who mentored him in trance mediumship. In addition to giving private readings, trance lectures (with his Spirit Guide, Chung), and platform demonstrations, Phil also teaches, runs the Open Platform at Wimbledon Spiritualist Church (where he has been a member for 25 years), serves churches in South London, Surrey and Sussex, and is a regular guest speaker/demonstrator at the annual Spirit-Seeker event in Stratford-upon-Avon.

He holds a Certificate in Foundation of Humanistic Counselling, and Diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London, has studied Jungian tarot with Juliet Sharman-Burke, and also has a Diploma from The Centre for Psychological Astrology (trained with Liz Greene). Phil is also a qualified Reiki Level 2 practitioner, Indian Head Massage Therapist, and his studies in Buddhism, Psychological/Esoteric Astrology (at The Faculty of Astrological Studies), Evolutionary Astrology with Mark Jones, Native American Shamanism, and physical mediumship are on-going.
